Daniela Soto-Innes, Chef de cuisine at Cosme, a Mexican restaurant in New York.
She recently starred in a Tribeca Film Festival documentary about her life and is assisting Cosme’s owner in opening a new Noho restaurant. Last year, Daniela was awarded the prestigious James Beard Rising Star Chef of the Year.
"I heard the chef speak at my school, and I told him I wanted to intern with him. He laughed because of my age. But I just showed up every day until they finally let me cut strawberry tops. So I started from there: cutting strawberry tops for free until they hired me.” "I remember when I was 16 I came to New York for a job at — I'm not going to say the restaurant. But the chef told me, ‘You know we don’t hire women.’ I got the job, but I was like, 'You know, forget you! I’m not moving here and getting paid nothing for you not to believe that women can do this job!’"
"I’m always wanting to learn more and more and more, and with cooking, you never finish learning." #1460women
