Simone Manuel, Olympic swimmer specializing in sprint freestyle and student at Stanford University. In Rio’s 2016 Olympics, she won two gold and two silver medals. She is the first African-American woman to win an individual Olympic gold in swimming, set an Olympic record, and set an American record.

"I didn’t have that many people to look up to when I was younger so hopefully it inspires other African Americans to get involved in the sport.”

“I was just swimming my races. I swim for myself. I love it, I have fun, and just representing my country is the greatest honor I could ever have. I just went out there and had fun.”
